Ringo Ameyuri
Name: Ameyuri Ringo
Canon: Naruto
Character Journal:
lightsnack
Gender: Female
Age: Physically 16, chronologically she was born around 39 BGS.
Birthday: June 7th
Village Affiliation: Kirigakure
Rank: Jounin (ex-ANBU), member of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist.
Canon History: Her sparse wiki page.
Canon Abilities/Powers: As both a hunter-nin and a Mist Swordsman, she was ranked amongst the seven strongest ninja in Kiri from their entire history. Her particular specialities were pursuit and capture tactics combined with kenjutsu and a powerful mastery of the lightning release.
- Kenjutsu: To have earned one of the seven swords, she was already highly skilled in swordsmanship from a very young age. Being ambidextrous, small, and agile, her speciality is dual-wielding longswords in a whirling style that closes distances quickly.
- Kiba: During her life she possessed the Kiba twinswords, which were a pair of 'thunderblades' infused with lightning chakra until they gained the sharpest cutting edge of any known sword. Using these, she could reduce the chakra cost of any lightning abilities drastically, and used them in a dance-like dual sword style to cut through multiple enemies at once.
- Lightning Release: Unlike most Kiri shinobi, Ameyuri's only apparent chakra nature is Lightning. She's mastered the use of this element in a number of long- and close-range techniques such as the inaccurate but effective Thunderbolt (think Pokemon), the smaller, more accurate Thunder Fang and Thunder Gate, a battalion-class technique that has been shown to incinerate large patches of forest.
- Silent Killing: Being a noted tracker and hunter, Ameyuri is as much a master of this method as any other Swordsman. She can move silently and kill without leaving a trace, though her effectiveness is greatly enhanced when her target's vision is obscured or if she's attacking from behind. She can also track by sound rather than sight, should it become necessary.
- Hunting: Speaking of which, she's exceedingly fast over long distances, excelling in the chase, and is a good enough tracker than she's never let any target escape. Given that her targets were likely almost exclusively ninja or guarded by ninja, this speaks for her implacable hunting ability.
Appearance: Ameyuri was young when she died of an illness, and never grew taller than 4'8 and still has a boyish figure. She has long, messy hair the approximate colour of drying blood that she ties up in itself to make double-ended spikes framing her face. The rest of it falls loose down her back. Like her fellow Swordsmen, she wears pinstripes, neck bandages and a Kiri headband, and her teeth are the sharp fangs of an exclusive predator. Her eyes are dark enough to be considered black, and she's pale-skinned. She's usually smiling. It's never a good sign.
Personality: Ameyuri is a playful, impulsive young woman revered among the ninja of Kirigakure, which should tell you everything. This is a woman whose great prowess and fearsome reputation hasn't tempered her cruelty or viciousness any. Like her peers, she enjoys killing above all else, thrilling in a challenge and often referring to strong opponents as 'meals' to express her savage attraction to her opponents. Perhaps as a result of her career in ANBU, or in spite of it, she resents people who flee from her or fail to put up a satisfactory struggle, and hunts for opponents who are brave or stupid enough to fight her face-to-face. Despite her direct and often lethal strikes, she enjoys 'playing with her food' to the extent of playing a mean-spirited cat-and-mouse game with her particular favourite prey, even to the point that she won't use her full strength at once to extend her playtime. It should be said that she still has a particular honour in that cruelty - if an opponent requests death or that she go all out, she will. She's a thrill-seeker, a terrible combination to go with being a professional killer, but at least she's in an organisation of similarly-minded individuals to wear herself out against.
That said, she is capable of being loyal, with her service to Kiri only terminating when her life (or awareness) did. She can work as a unit, often teaming up with other swordsmen like Kushimaru during her career, and she is often respectful towards worthwhile opponents and allies both. That isn't to say she won't kill that person in an instant, but she will genuinely like them as she does it. It isn't a healthy way of gaining friends, but outside of a war environment her battles might become a little less universally lethal and her worthwhile people a little less dead, at which point she can display something of the same attachment as she has to her village.
She's a direct person, much like her lightning. Quick to judge and to assess, she strikes then suddenly moves on, and this applies to her life beyond battle. She'll stick with something until all avenues or lifelines are exhausted before she abandons it, and is difficult to distract or divert once she's decided on something. This makes her a firm ally - if she has truly attached. Others are just collateral damage, and you can only tell by the intensity of her reactions which case it may be. In terms of her verbal tic, she'll determine fairly rapidly if someone is her 'type', though this isn't particularly sexual as a designation. Rather, it's a show of interest, and can apply to sparring partners as much as romantic ones, and indeed it's uncertain whether Ameyuri even knows there's a difference. Both are something she wants to keep for as long as possible, even if she burns them out eventually.
Finally, her 'death' has made her remarkably accepting of the prospect of her own demise, and her belief in the afterlife is stronger than ever. Although she's a very demonstrative, emotive woman, she's nothing but calm in the face of her own death, and was highly disoriented when she was thawed out and healed. After all, she didn't actually believe the plan would work.
Strengths and Weaknesses:
+ Acknowledged as one of the most powerful Swordsmen when she lived.
+ Capable of being friendly, if not polite????
+ Can spam powerful Lightning techniques into infinity if she possesses the Kiba blades.
+ Her pursuit ability is high enough that she's never failed to catch her prey.
- YET.
- She's been on ice for thirty years and will have to be extensively rehabilitated in both the way her country works, her peers and her own body. Kiri has moved on without her and she has a lot of catching up to do.
- Like a lightning strike, if you know she's coming she's easier to handle.
- Tends to focus too heavily on one thing at a time and is relatively easy to ambush or trick by indirect means. Her tunnel-vision is exceedingly narrow and she refuses to let go of something until she's achieved that goal.
- Both this vindictive attitude and her limited variety of techniques make her predictable.
- Reliant on Kiba for chakra management, without the swords she'll drain herself quickly.
- Standard Kiri inability to not be a vicious killer for more than five minutes at a time.
- Old-fashioned, especially when it comes to bloodlines and intervillage relations.
Sunshine Abilities/Powers: No change to her abilities, though I'll be extending her Kiba-related abilities to include Raiga's repertoire, assuming that her single episode wasn't enough to exhaust it.
Sunshine History: Ameyuri grew up in what would have been the time of Bloody Mist, almost forty years before the present day. Showing excellence in kenjutsu from an early age, and possessing a remarkably strong Lightning nature for a kunoichi from a Kiri clan, she was claimed by the previous owner of Kiba before she'd even graduated. Being the only kunoichi in the pool of apprentices and swordsmen, she refused his offer and chose to join ANBU while still a child. She rose through the ranks until she was an established hunter-nin... and then she found the owner of Kiba, and killed him for the swords. Thus a Swordsman in her own right and under her own power, she set about furthering her vicious reputation as an unerring tracker.
Then she started blacking out. Aware of her illness but unwilling to give up her rank or the thrill of her missions, she said nothing. One day, she hacked up blood during a debriefing with the Mizukage, and her secret was out. Unlike the original timeline, the lack of bloodline purges and the continued existence of the Yuki clan led to an odd solution to her 'incurable' illness: cryogenic stasis. The Yuki clan would freeze and care for her until a cure could be found. After resistance, she was given the ultimatum of either retiring as a Swordsman or being frozen, and took the latter, disappearing abruptly from Kiri life in 23 BGS. Rumours that she had died circulated, and would continue to do so.
In AGS 1, a cure was discovered, stolen, and brought back to Kiri. Over the next six months, medic-nin set about thawing her out, restoring her to some semblance of health, and then putting her through intensive treatments until her body had been purged of its disease. Weak but undeniably no longer under a death sentence, she returned to 'life' in AGS 2.
Prose sample: HERE YOU GO
Missive Sample: Raiga Kurosuki. Consider this your official heads-up. Ameyuri Ringo of the Seven Swordsmen is alive and coming for you. Make it interesting. A proper match between Swordsmen, something that will thrill anyone who hears about it. This isn't some half-assed challenge - only one of us is walking away from this with Kiba, and it's going to be me.
