Canon Abilities/Powers:
Baki is a very well rounded Jounin, with training in ninjutsu, genjutsu and taijutsu, with Wind releases being his specialty. He mainly utilizes the latter in addition to his close quarters combat training, using extremely fast moving pockets of rotating air as a bladed weapon. He is an especially brutal physical fighter with skills closer to a brawler, willing to take non-fatal hits in order to get in an opening with an opponent.
Appearance:
Baki is a rather tall and well built individual. At 6'2" and 190 pounds he's fairly imposing and extremely physically fit. He keeps his ginger red hair cut short and tucked away underneath his head wrap. He has four red stripes tattooed on his face, two on each cheek. He is missing his right eye from an old injury that damaged his eye socket and left serious scarring around the area. He keeps the right half of his face covered with a shroud for that reason. He has a mass of scar tissue on his right shoulder and clavicle from a related injury, in addition to a dusting of smaller scars. His low brow and sharp eyes give him a stern expression at most times, even when idle.
Personality:
On his surface, Baki is a very strict and controlled person. He believes in acting after consideration, and dissuades others from acting on impulse. He tries to maintain a set of manners and proper behavior, and it can be seen in how he addresses people down to his tight posture. He can sometimes come off as callous or uncaring because he considers most open displays of emotion to be inappropriate while around strangers.
He considers Suna to be the most important part of his life and dedicates the vast majority of it to the betterment of the village and its inhabitants. As a result, he tends to put just about everything before himself, to the detriment of his personal life or health. When there's a problem, he would rather find a solution himself than pass it on to someone else, and this can rapidly lead to him taking on more tasks than he's capable of handling at the time. The bad habit can sometimes build into a martyr complex.
Despite that, he is rather effective at managing groups of people, thinking situations through, and evaluating the well being of others. He considers the health of others before his own and feels it is very important to keep up good working relationships with other members of the village.
Deeper down, Baki can be a rather sympathetic person who worries about the people he meets. The intensity of his life frequently leads to him being overstressed and overworked, and when that happens he shuts down emotionally to make things easier for himself. On the other hand he possesses a surprising amount of optimism and is constantly looking to the future as a source of hope in his life. His favorite expression "Indomitable perseverance" is a good summation of his view of being a shinobi. No matter what happens, he strives to keep moving forward.

Sunshine Abilities/Powers:
He is capable of creating small, localized circulating air such as dust devils or vast windstorms such as cyclones or sandstorms. The latter of which can be especially devestating, with a lack of visibility combined with the choking sand. He is precise enough to generate moving air to allow him to glide or hover over terrain, or give him a boost in speed. By manipulating small pockets of air pressure and ionization, he can create a barrier that can divert or deflect certain types of Lightning releases.
Sunshine History:
Baki was born in Suna to a relatively unimportant clan and had an uneventful, if content childhood. Because of the wartime and its effects on Suna, however, he was ushered through his education hastily to bring about his future career as a soldier. He became an academy graduate at eight years old and a chunin at twelve and served briefly on Suna's front before the Third War came to to an end. At age 14, while patrolling through the borders between Wind Country and the Village Hidden in the Grass his squad was ambushed by Grass nin. While his squad managed to escape with their lives, several members including Baki were severely injured during the assault. He lost his right eye and temporarily lost the use of his right arm.
While recovering in Suna after the war's end, he began to get more involved in the political climate of the village. After the village was devastated following the mysterious disappearance of the Third Kazekage, Rasa was the one to step up as leader. Baki believed that he and Karura were the village's best chance at recovering and surviving its current crushing situation. He eventually became seen as a close friend of the family, and their own dedication to the village would come to inspire his own strong feelings of loyalty towards it.
Though his faith was shaken after Karura's sudden death and the birth of her son as a container of Shukaku, Baki continued to be one of Rasa's most stalwart supporters.
This came to an end with Rasa's decision to order an aggrieved Yashamaru to attempt to assassinate Gaara, a decision viewed as so heartless to Baki that he began to distance himself from the Kazekage. Instead, he redoubled his loyalty towards the village itself, regardless of who was leading it. He turned his attention towards teaching (well raising, really) the three children of the family he had once known.

As I have been called to service outside of the village, I will not be able to return to Wind Country for at least the next two weeks. With the nebulous nature of my assignment, I may be away even longer, but I will resolve to return at the earliest available period.

I must ask that you not choose to make any especially risky decisions while I am away. I am leaving the village in your hands, so to speak, so please be especially concientious of what you are doing.
