Alphinaud Leveilleur
Name: Alphinaud Leveilleur
Canon: Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn
Character Journal:
leveilleur
Gender: Male
Age: Twenty-two (He just happens to look sixteen)
Birthday: 3/31
Village Affiliation: Land of Ice
Rank: Civilian
Canon History: The Story of Eorzea is entwined with him.
Canon Abilities/Powers: While Alphinaud's abilities aren't particularly showcased in game, I do suspect him to be something likened to an Arcanist judging from his scholarly attire and the enormous tome he possess. Arcansists are a Disciple of Magic class capable of summoning small little familiars to aid them in battle. The Arcanists' familiar is called a "Carbuncle" and there's two different types of these creatures ranging from Emerald (green) Carbuncle and Topaz (Yellow) Carbuncle. The Emerald Carbuncle is a speedy spellcaster capable of pummeling enemies with a wide barrage of spells while the other focuses on dishing out physical melee damage.
Arcanists are known for casting magical poisons upon foes to debilitate them in battle. They can make someone so ill that they'll be unable to fight for about twenty or more seconds. While their magical poisons don't last very long they can do enough damage alone. However these poisons are uses only as a mere distraction while the Arcanist's Carbuncles launch spells at them or attack.
Appearance: Besides the shockingly white hair and small stature, Alphinaud might be one of the few people to sport elf-like ears. They're long and quite pointy making him look everything like an elf. This is because of his Elezen heritage that he has some odd pointy ears. Alphinaud is a rather short and dainty little boy. While most of his kind tend to grow to become very tall and lanky, Alphinaud maintains his boyish appearance because of his petite height. He shouldn't be any taller than 5'6 or so. The child is rather short. One more note about Alphinaud's appearance, he looks exactly like his sister Alisaie. The two of them are almost indistinguishable which begs the question if Alphinaud looks like a girl or if Alisaie looks like a boy. They're both quite androgynous tend to possess a fondness for tunic blouses and leggings.
Personality: Quite learned, cultured, and rather ambitious; Alphinaud Leveilleur is a talented young man who's rather mature for his age. Gifted with a silver tongue, Alphinaud is the kind of person who holds strong to his convictions despite presented adversity. He believes in his convictions so strongly that he would actually die for his ideals rather than abandon his goals. Some might consider this too be arrogance on Alphinaud's part but others would see it as bravery. While he's not without his faults, Alphinaud certainly tries to do what's best for everyone rather than what's best for himself. Along with the esteemed lineage he shares with that of the famous Louisoix Leveilleur, this is where Alphinaud's arrogance comes into play.
Throughout the story-line Alphinaud is obsessed with the idea of a unified country. He goes out of his way to coerce several royals of the three city-states to agree to have the Scions of the Seventh Dawn help unify Eoreza against the threat of the Garlean Empire. His ambitiousness initially wins him scorn from the city-states until his eventual successes prove the Scions' worth. It's then that Alphinaud falls into the entrapment of his hubris and begins to set the stage for his inevitable fall. Despite how mature Alphinaud seems, the boy is still clearly a child and it shows. He often gets into arguments with others, especially with his twin sister Alisaie, regarding the dire future of Eoreza. He also has a habit of being somewhat harsh towards those who do not share in his opinions. He's a critic, a somewhat harsh critic at that. While Alphinaud does show an absurdly amount of optimism towards his ideas, he's often very critical of others to the point that he seems downright dismissive.
His stubbornness comes into play as both a strength and a weakness here. The boy doesn't know when to call it quits and often he goes out of his way to expand his influence however he can. Though what Alphinaud lacks is true wisdom. He's inexperienced and prone to make mistakes no matter how well-organized and planned he is. However, there's no doubt that Alphinaud is a prodigy who will eventually become as legendary as his scholarly grandfather. He's the true heir of his family's legacy despite his obvious faults.
Strengths and Weaknesses: In the terms of physical strength, Alphinaud certainly isn't all that strong. He bleeds like everyone else is prone to injury if being paired against a ninja of a higher skill set than him. However what Alphinaud lacks in strength he makes up in his ability to adapt. The boy has a tendency to use his head more than brawn and is quite good at ensnaring his foes.
Here's a brief run down of traits that Alphinaud possesses.
-Positive Traits-
Strategic
Intelligent
Idealistic
Prodigy
-Negative Traits-
Stubborn
Naive
Manipulative
Haughty
Overconfident
Sunshine Abilities/Powers: Considering Alphinaud's in-character ability to summon Carbuncle, I want to leave it open for the boy to learn the finer arts of "Summoning Jutsu" throughout his journeys. I believe he'll honestly be able to master this technique once he finds a summoned creature to form a contract with. As of right now, his summoned creature of choice will be Carbuncle until he eventually branches off to try different forms of spell-casting.
Sunshine History: Alphinaud comes from a long line of nobles hailing from the Land of Iron. The Leveilleurs are known for their scholarly pursuits outside of their realm. They're typically artists, authors and sometimes performers. However Alphinaud's grandfather Louisoix was famously known as a philanthropist who assisted in aiding refugees during the Shinobi Wars. The People of Ice are widely known to be quite hostile towards the outside world. They're secretive about their culture and usually show great disdain in aiding outsiders. Louisoix was perhaps one of the few noblemen from Iron to show concern beyond his country's borders during the brutal rebellion that brewed within the Kingdom of Ice.
During the rebellion, Louisoix helped the Empress Kaguya escape the country with her young son and unborn daughter. He sent them to his homeland in hopes that she could seek political asylum there. While he had planned to travel with her by horseback to Iron, Louisoix decided to stay behind. Interested in preserving the rich culture and history of Ice, Louisoix turned back to salvage what he could. Unfortunately his love for literature is what caused his doom when the rebels stormed his family's summer home and killed him. It was a month later that Alphinaud and his twin sister would learn of their grandfather's death. News of his grandfather's death completely ruined House Leveilleur and left them in great despair. While he was too young at the time to comprehend what transpired during the Ice Rebellion, Alphinaud vowed to preserve his grandfather's legacy by trying his hand to bring peace to the Land of Ice.
Now at the tender age of twenty-two, Alphinaud is one of the main driving forces in Ice attempting to rally the people together in hopes of reforging that once great country. Most of the citizens of Ice greatly appreciate Alphinaud's efforts despite him being an foreigner. His grandfather had made enough of a presence the country to be revered as one of their patron saints. However certain nobles who are natives of Ice are still quick to remind Alphinaud of his foreign lineage and sometimes quite dislike the youth's noble efforts. He's too idealistic and pragmatic for the current lords of Ice to ignore.
Prose sample:
While history itself constantly evolves and adapts to the victor's hand, there's one fact that forever will ever remain true. The meek and weak shall suffer while the mighty and powerful feast upon their misery. This a universal truth that Alphinaud read about in his grandfather's journals. It doesn't matter what age or century they live, the poor is always doomed to suffer. Whether it be by the hands of their allegedly righteous monarch or by the swords of bandits, the poor is always doomed. Despite how much Alphinaud attempts to alleviate the suffering of others this truth always remains true.
A tired sigh escapes the youth as he assists his volunteer with the tireless task of retrieving bounties of food off he nearby carriages. Most of the people of this icy country tend to be impoverished due to the great expenses here. Thanks to the rule of a rather cruel lord who've taken the Kingdom of Ice hostage, many of its citizens now find themselves without so much as mere barley to fill their stomachs. They wander along the streets seeking relief only to find that a helping hand is more scarce than the heat here. While Alphinaud works tirelessly to bring some end to their suffering, nothing he does ever seems good enough. It's a morbid fact.
"Surely this little bit will be enough to feed some of them." The young man mutters as he loads the barrels of food with the help of his volunteers. While the Land of Iron never had an interest in the politics of their neighboring nations, Alphinaud's family always showed great interest in the villages that exist their realm. Maybe it was his grandfather's inquisitive nature that lured the Leveilleurs to look beyond the boundaries. Whatever it was Alphinaud certainly couldn't help but be oddly fascinated by how different the world seems outside of his kingdom.
Missive Sample:
[ A little hesitant to speak for once despite his usual charismatic demeanor, Alphinaud sends this message to his dear sister who's still somewhere aboard. ]
The days certainly has passed quite quickly, hasn't they? [ There's a soft chuckle that follows. Alphinaud must be in a rather amiable mood now despite the urgency of this message. He always done well at keeping himself rather calm even in the most dire of situations. ] I certainly hope is all is well, Alisaie. For too long we haven't speak and I've honestly begun to worry.
[ Him? Worried? Of course not.]
Nevertheless I pray that all is well. However now that causalities has been spoken, shall we speak of a possible reunion between us? Your silence as of late has honestly left me a tad...perturbed as of late.
