Village Affiliation: Konoha

Canon Abilities/Powers: N/A

Appearance:
(Player’s note: Since I am switching from a live action PB to a manga one, her physical description is being changed to fit the manga PB)

Like many in her clan, Natsumi has black hair and dark eyes that turn red when her sharingan activates. Her sharingan has three tomoe. Her hair is typically worn pinned up, and when it’s down, it reaches past her waist in length. Build-wise, although she possesses the lean muscle mass one would expect of a jounin kunoichi, she’s also somewhat voluptuous with an ample chest. She is 5’3” in height. Natsumi’s fashion choices vary quite a bit due to well meaning peer pressure. On her own, she’ll choose more modest and feminine clothing, but some of her clothing can be revealing thanks to a couple of friends who insist on the philosophy of “if you’ve got it, flaunt it”.

Personality:

Natsumi is a friendly and sociable girl. She likes being around people, and she's got both a strong sense of empathy for others as well as insight into what makes other people tick. Although she's far from all-knowing, she is good at reading into little details about people. She tries not to assume, but she's still conscious of those details and her guesses are often reasonably accurate. Natsumi both enjoys speaking to people and socializing, as well as sitting back and people-watching. She's an extroverted girl, and is comfortable talking to a variety of people. She's also generally comfortable in crowds, and likes inviting guests over for dinner. Natsumi has a sense of humour as well. Even when embarrassed, she can lighten the situation a little with some self-deprecating humour. She enjoys a little bit of relatively harmless mischief as well. If she were to catch someone peeping on her at the hot springs, for example, she'd use her talent with genjutsu to make the person see a hairy old man rather than a young woman.

Being raised in the somewhat traditional Uchiha clan, Natsumi's grown up conscious of gender roles and propriety. It's tempered her outgoing side a little bit. She's no longer as loud and chatty as she was as a child, when she sometimes got into trouble for talking in class and passing notes. Now that social side is a little more refined, as she's more mindful of what other people think. In fact, Natsumi does care quite a bit about what other people think. One of her greatest downfalls is that she caves to peer pressure more than she really should. She can ignore peer pressure and make up her own mind when lives are on the line, but her desire to please others means shoving aside her own goals to do what other people want. As one of the few women in the clan to manifest the Uchiha bloodline limit, there's some pressure to excel and be a good example to younger kunoichi in the clan. And so, Natsumi does push herself to reach goals that aren't her own. She'll also buy clothes because friends or family tell her they look nice on her rather than because she likes them herself. Although she's got some sense of propriety, she also will stay out later than she should at parties because her friends tell her "No, don't leave yet". Outside of life and death situations, Natsumi gives in to what other people want and puts what she wants aside.

Natsumi is a pacifist, by shinobi standards. It's part of the reason why she's spent so much more time refining her genjutsu than any other ninja skill. She understands that sometimes, the sensible thing to do is kill the enemy. She accepts that, and will do what's necessary, but if she can spare an enemy without there being a very good chance that her mercy will come back to bite her in the rear later, she will. Natsumi isn't a blind idealist. She'll pick the most peaceful option that's practical and won't cost the mission. She's restrained, not naive. In fact, Natsumi actually has very good judgment when thinking things through on her own. She's not an impulsive hothead, and she's mindful of the fact that good decisions can make the difference between life and death on missions. This is why she's already managed to make jounin. She thinks well on her feet and her insight into what makes other people tick enables her to form sound strategies.

Strengths and Weaknesses:

Strengths:

Mental: Natsumi is intelligent and has a good sense of battle strategy. She thinks things through and uses her skills in clever ways.

Emotional: Both sociable and empathetic, Natsumi has no problem with relating to other people. She's got good insight into how people think and perceive things, and has a high emotional IQ, so to speak.

Physical: Natsumi's greatest physical strength is her versatility. Sharingan has enabled her to learn a wide assortment of techniques at an accelerated rate, so if one isn't working, she can adapt and keep trying until something does work

Weaknesses:

Mental: - Natsumi worries too much about what other people think and lets that impact her good judgment in all but life or death matters.

Emotional: - Natsumi lets herself get stressed out unnecessarily trying to meet the Uchiha clan's expectations - even when no one is actively pressuring her to do anything. She feels guilt when she's relaxing more than she absolutely needs to, and even her hobby is a productive thing.

Physical: - As someone who's spent far more time developing her genjutsu than anything else, Natsumi's physical strength is below average for a jounin. She may know a lot of taijutsu moves, but her body isn't necessarily capable of handling them - especially not for prolonged lengths of time.

Sunshine Abilities/Powers:

Sharingan - Natsumi has had sharingan eyes since she was ten, and they are fully matured with three tomoe. She hasn't developed any of the advanced abilities as she hasn't personally experienced the death of anyone closest to her, but she's quite adept at using her eyes and has used her sharingan to copy a number of things - including the techniques of teppanaki chefs.

Genjutsu - In part, this skill comes with sharingan, but Natsumi is more skilled in genjutsu than in any other shinobi art. She's able to come up with very elaborate and realistic genjutsu techniques. Rather than giving her target a headtrip, her favourite tactic is to mimic an actual battle with her genjutsu so that she can copy her opponent's techniques and try to provoke her opponent into revealing any trump card abilities they might have.

Ninjutsu - Natsumi knows a variety of ninjutsu. Her primary nature type is fire and her secondary nature type is water. They're the two elements she's the most proficient with.

Poisons and antidotes - Although Natsumi doesn't quite have the refined chakra control needed for being a mednin, the years she spent becoming a proficient young cook translated very well to mixing poisons and antidotes. Her intelligence and analytical abilities also enable her to quickly assess what sort of poison has been used on someone.

Natsumi has invented a simple yet very useful seal that acts like a magnet for fire jutsu. So far, it only attracts Katon used by the person who put the seal on the target in the first place, effectively turning her Katon into seal-seeking missiles. It makes it impossible to dodge the fire - the only way to deal with it is to make a kawarimi take the hit, or to counter it with another jutsu (Suiton or Doton being the most effective options). She doesn't use this technique often as she prefers not to use taijutsu and avoids killing where possible. But if she wants someone dead? She makes sure every last Katon counts while minimizing the collateral damage to the surrounding area in the process.

Recent techniques/skills:

Although she still remains more proficient in fire and water jutsu as they are her elemental types, Natsumi’s skills with lightning and earth jutsu have improved considerably over the past year. Her chakra reserves have also grown with training.

She has since created an upgraded version of her fire jutsu magnet seal that will make a person a magnet for all fire jutsu used within a certain range (not just the fire jutsu used by the person who applied the seal) however, it takes longer to successfully apply to a target. She’s sped up the speed that she can apply her original invention.

Natsumi has improved her skills with bladed weapons - in part, oddly enough, from copying the techniques of master chefs for handling blades and applying it accordingly toward combat.

Sunshine History: Natsumi was born into the Uchiha clan. Her early childhood was fairly average for a young kunoichi. Although her parents always pushed her to be the best that she could be, they were loving and supportive. Neither of them were very good at cooking, which motivated her to start learning how to cook at a very early age. She proved to be surprisingly good at it, and received a lot of positive reinforcement for her efforts. She entered the Konoha Academy at age 7 and did reasonably well, even if her social inclinations meant she often talked or passed notes in class when she was supposed to be listening. Natsumi's life was fairly happy until her father died on a mission when she was 8 years old. That year was a rough year for Natsumi, as she also lost an aunt and uncle. Her mother Noriko took in young Kichirou, Natsumi's now orphaned younger cousin. Natsumi resolved to protect him, and do her best to put on a brave face for his sake, as he'd lost even more than she had. She was also determined to do well for the rest of her Academy years because her father would have wanted that, but for the first time in her life, she really questioned if she actually wanted to become a shinobi.

When Natsumi was 10, her younger cousin Kichirou started school at the Konoha Academy. She tried to be as good an example as she could manage. Unfortunately, Kichirou had a very reckless and foolhardy streak. One day when Natsumi was held after class for a detention for passing notes in class, some older boys thought it would be funny to dare the little first year to sneak into the Forest of Death. Natsumi was distraught, and though she was terrified of the Forest of Death, she was even more afraid of losing the little cousin she'd been so determined to protect. She found Kichirou looking deathly pale and being wrapped up in the webbing of a giant spider, paralyzed by the creature's venom. In her desperation to rescue him, Natsumi's sharingan manifested, giving her the edge she needed to predict the monstrous arachnid's movements and defeat it. Moving on sheer adrenaline, Natsumi carried her cousin while running like a bat out of hell from the Forest of Death, finally collapsing in a heap once they were safe. They were found shortly afterward by a member of the Uchiha clan. A few clanmates had gone searching for the two children when they hadn't returned home. Eventually, the three older boys who'd dared Kichirou to go into the Forest of Death confessed that they'd dared Kichirou and that Natsumi had followed.

Things might have settled down, except Natsumi's sharingan eyes were still activated when she was found by her elder clanmate. Suddenly, there were far greater expectations of her now that she'd manifested the Uchiha clan's bloodline limit. Her experience had been terrifying, and that pushed her even more in the direction of not wanting to be a shinobi and wanting a civilian life instead. Having sharingan eyes, however, meant that she was much more interesting to the clan. Natsumi received a lot of encouragement and well-intentioned pressure to do the clan proud. There were offers to help her master her sharingan, and overall a lot more interest in how her scholastic career at the Academy was going. Natsumi didn't have the heart to tell them that she was thinking of just graduating and then working toward opening her own restaurant, even if that idea made her far happier than the idea of going on missions.

Although she graduated second in the class rather than as the number-one rookie, Natsumi managed to make chuunin on her first try. This wasn't through any grand displays of power, but rather through cleverly using genjutsu in the finals right from the start of her fight. While her opponent believed she was fighting him directly and using the Uchiha clan's famed fire jutsu heavily in battle, he was actually fighting an illusion Natsumi and the fire jutsu were all illusions as well. In the end, she'd copied several of his techniques with her sharingan, made him run around a lot, and made him burn off a great deal of his chakra while taking no damage and using less than half of her chakra herself. It wasn't much of a show for the onlookers, but she was awarded her rank precisely because it wasn't flashy - it was efficient and clever. She was promoted to jounin at age 17 for similar reasons.

Recent history:

After a couple of close calls on missions where her injuries took her out of commission for over a week even with medical ninjutsu used to speed up her recovery, Natsumi focused a lot of her free time on training to further broaden her repertoire of jutsu and other combat techniques. More aware than ever of how dangerous the life of a shinobi was, she also began to put away money from her earnings so that she could save up for the restaurant she hoped to open one day.

“No! I don’t want it!” shrieked Kaito, the bratty eight year old son of the businessman Natsumi’s team had been assigned to protect.

That protection, as it turned out, was to extend to the businessman’s family as well. Something not in the original contract, but this was hardly the first or the last time that a client who hired shinobi didn’t fully disclose the details in order to save some money. At least the man had been honest about the prospect of shinobi possibly being hired to go after him - so her team consisted of herself and three chuunin to protect the businessman, his wife, his son, and his brother. The three adults were fine. The son, however, was unpleasant to be around. He often threw tantrums, despite being old enough to know better. He was difficult to please, too. The dinner made for him smelled perfectly good and he’d turned his nose up at it almost instantly.

The family’s maid, Mitsuko, rushed over to try to soothe Kaito. “Ssssh, young master. I can make you something else to eat. What would you like?”

“I want to eat cake for dinner!”

“Your father wouldn’t approve of that,” said Mitsuko.

“I WANT CAKE! I WANT CAAAAAAAAKE!” Kaito screamed, throwing his plate down to the floor without trying a single bite of the dinner. Luckily, the plate didn’t shatter, but the food went everywhere.

Mitsuko moved to start cleaning up the mess when Natsumi took a step forward from her post against the wall. She’d had just about enough of this scene. “Mitsuko-san....stop. If you’d be so kind, I’d like a few minutes alone with Kaito-chan, please.”

The maid paused, looked between the red-faced boy who looked apt to throw himself on the ground and start kicking and screaming any moment, and the kunoichi in the room. After a moment, she nodded and exited the room, leaving Natsumi alone with the boy. Natsumi let him shriek and whine without a single word. In fact, she gave no hint that she even knew he was there. Finally, he quieted down and addressed her in a petulant tone of voice.

“Hey! Did you hear me? I want cake for dinner.”

“You won’t be having cake for dinner, Kaito-chan,” said Natsumi.

“I’ll hold my breath until I die! Then you’ll fail at your mission!” replied the boy defiantly.

“Go right ahead, Kaito-chan.” At most, he’d faint from lack of oxygen and then his body would get the oxygen he needed once he wasn’t consciously stopping himself from breathing. But given how undisciplined he was, Natsumi doubted he’d even get that far. In fact, he looked a little startled to be called out on his bluff. Nonetheless, he held his breath with his cheeks puffed out and a stubborn glare in her direction. He managed to hold his breath for over a minute with his face growing increasingly red until he finally had to take a breath.

Natsumi moved so that she was facing him directly and looking him right in the eyes. “You have three choices for your dinner tonight.” Holding out her hand, she counted off the options on her fingers. “One, you can eat the dinner Mitsuko-san made for you that you threw on the floor. Two, you can go without dinner and be sent straight to bed. Or three, you can clean up that mess, and then you and I will go to the kitchen and make your dinner together.”

Kaito stamped his feet as he took his napkin and started scooping up the spilled dinner onto his plate. His lip jutted out in a firm pout, but he was cleaning up the mess.

“Your parents and uncle are pretty busy lately, hm?” Natsumi remarked innocently as she passed him another napkin. Kaito’s expression quickly shifted from sulking to startled, then suspicious, and finally sad.

"They're so busy, they forget all about me..." he said, lip quivering as tears formed in his eyes. Natsumi wasn't surprised at all by the admission. Kaito wasn't getting the attention he needed, so he acted out. Negative attention was better than no attention in the eyes of a lonely child.

"You're very important to them, Kaito-chan," Natsumi assured him. "Your father wanted to be absolutely sure that you wouldn't be hurt by anyone. That's why he wanted to make sure someone was around to protect you. But you know...his work does keep him so busy that he's tired. It's not easy for him to get so many reports about you behaving badly after he's worked from morning until night."

She let that sink in for a moment. "But you know what he probably would like? If you surprised him by bringing him dinner that you made yourself. I think that would be a really nice surprise...and I'll teach you."

Kaito was silent, mulling everything she said over with his arms crossed. Rather than sulky, he looked thoughtful. "Can we make things for my mother and uncle, too? ...and maybe Mitsuko, too?"

Smiling, Natsumi nodded. “We sure can. What do you think they’d like best?”

Missive Sample:

Dear Hokage-sama,

I regret to inform you that there are a few chuunin in desperate need of work. Or, at the very least, opportunities to apply their skills and talents to more appropriate avenues. I discovered this terribly unfortunate situation when I decided to treat myself to an afternoon at the hot springs. Three of them were peeping into the women’s section.

I managed to cure them of their affliction temporarily with a genjutsu technique, but I fear too much time on their hands may lead to a relapse. If it’s not too presumptuous of me, I would like to recommend D-rank missions that involve a lot of manual labour.
I hope you’re doing well, and I hope that my report made you smile.

Warm regards,

Uchiha Natsumi
