CharactersWhat kind of characters do you accept? This game has two modes, canon and native. Canon mode characters can be completely original OCs, and any canon character taken directly from any fandom. Native mode characters on the other hand, can be pretty much anyone at all, as they'll get a complete conversion so they're from this universe on the way in.
Are there any character limitations?Players who intend to try for a village leader need to contact the game mods so they know what they're getting into. We wouldn't want to level game plot heavily on an unprepared player.
If you want to play a different version of someone already in the game, you will need to contact a mod so we can ask that player if they'd be okay with it. There can only be one canon and one native version of any given character at a time.
Summons and companion creatures: Are they playable?Your character can have summons. If they have them in canon they can keep them (if it still makes sense), but summons cannot be any kind of person.
Cloud Strife, for instance, cannot use Knights of the Round (this is humanlike), he could, however, summon chocobo (these are birds). In other words, your summons must be some sort of animal.
Yes, you can play a summon, but only if that summon was already sentient. They have to have enough of a personality to be apped, and if you're not sure this is the case, the mods will always welcome questions.
Characters: Adapting to this worldBut I don't know anything about Naruto! How do I adapt them to this world? No worries, everything you need to know can be found by following the links here. If you still have questions, just let us know and we'll explain everything we can for you.

Point System (For the incredibly ambitious. Not even remotely required.)Do non-human characters get humanized? For natives, yes, but the extent is up to the player, so a pony, for instance, can still have ponylike parts, but call it part of a bloodline. Feel free to decide the extent of how humanoid your character ends up, but be sure to explain it on the application!
For people coming straight from their canon, no conversion happens at all.
How are multiple characters in one body (IE: alter-egos, split personalities, etc.) handled? This depends on the character. Someone like Dr. Jekyll would still be one person, because he was one person in the first place. Someone like Yugi from Yu-gi-oh on the other hand, has very clear and distinct separate back story for his alter ego, and that person would be a separate character. This applies to both natives and canon folks, so have fun sorting that out if your person houses multiple souls back in their home universe.
Multiple versions of a person? There can be one canon and one native version of every character. However, determining how many canon characters one can have can be more of an issue.
This can be tricky because there are characters, such as Crowley, who is a vastly different character in the book Good Omens than he is in the series Supernatural. The character is based on the same source, but he is honestly a very different person in both. A case like this would probably be an unqualified yes to both multiple natives and multiple canons.
A difference such as Zack from Kingdom Hearts and Zack from Final Fantasy VII, where they are distinctly different people, would require permission from the player already in game before the application could be put in because even if they are distinct, there are overlapping themes between the two, and a shared appearance. It's much more likely there could only be one native version of the character in a case like this, and possible multiple canon versions.
Manga vs Anime or Movie vs Comic of the same character would have to be a no, unless the difference is so blatant there is no possible mistaking one version for another in personality. In the case where this works, the permission must be cleared by any current player of an alternate. In the same vein, only one native would be accepted of a character under this byline.
Two of the exact same character, from the same media source, or from the exact same timeline in two different sources, will be declined. There must be distinct differences beyond canonpoint.
How about clones, or people who are technically the same person but completely different?Clones are their own people! If the clone has a distinct body (this does not mean looks different, it means that they are seen with the person they were cloned from at some point) and personality, they can be apped as a character with no issues. This umbrella covers characters like Riku and Riku's Replica from Kingdom Hearts. This also applies to their native versions, meaning there could be up to six Riku company running around because of the cloning situation.
First, on people being the same person but not, there are multiple characters in this vein and each will be handled on a case by case basis. The Doctor from Doctor Who, for instance, can be apped as his separate incarnations so long as the other incarnations in the game agree it's fine. Ranma and Girl Ranma from Ranma 1/2, on the other hand, would be declined as separate characters as they share the exact same outlook on the world, and are indistinguishable between forms.
Characters: Relationships and ClansMy character has teammates/family/enemies in the game! What do I do?Just about everyone in the game is super friendly! Our taken list is
here and all our players welcome being PMed if a player-to-be wants to sort out inter-character details. If that seems too much, us mods are more than willing to answer any questions you have or contact players for you.
Can my characters be relatives/lovers/teachers/assistants to other characters?Let's start at the top. The only people who can be relatives are canon relatives or indirect clanmates. An example if this would be being a nebulous Uchiha or Yamanaka that is no direct relative of a named character. You can't claim someone is your parent, spouse, or sibling without first going through all relevant players, and the mods, for permission to do so if it's not a canon blood relation or marriage. On the other hand, if you want to
be a parent... once again you have to go through the appropriate players and mods.
Lovers! We will not stop people from shipping! However! If you do not have a canon basis for your ship, we will insist on it being worked out in game. Canon ship-teasing doesn't count. In other words, Asuma/Kurenai and Minato/Kushina is totally cool, Naruto/Hinata and Sasuke/Sakura will have to be worked out in-game, and not in backstory because this game's timepoint starts well before those were canon pairings, and the characters are liable to be very changed as well.
Teachers! You wanna be a sensei? Find some students. Remember that every character will be a little different, so asking around other players, or seeing if someone is looking for a sensei for their chibi, is the best bet. Or, if that's not your cup of tea, go ahead and put out there that unofficial teaching status is something your character is doing. You can ask to be an Academy teacher too! Remember those are Chunin before doing your application and you'll be just fine. You want to teach but don't want to have player run students? Just let a mod know and we'll work out who you're teaching. Or who you taught in the past, depending.
Assistants? You want to be a secretary to the Kage? Okay, sure! But please keep in mind that you'll have to work with that player on a regular basis, so if the player changes to someone else, you'll still have that status... and you'll have to work out the details all over again. Otherwise, have fun, and remember that there are plenty of departments that your character can easily be affiliated with.
Are samurai playable in the villages?Yes. Please take into account that they will have an affiliation to their home country, and that they have a separate and distinct culture from shinobi.
Can I make my own villages? There are enough canon villages that the answer will have to be no. If you wish to turn creating a village into a plot, we are not adverse to you contacting the mods and working out how this might come about.
How about a clan, can I make a clan?Yes, you can make a clan. Please define what about your clan is unique. If they have a bloodline, if they're mostly shinobi, if they're mostly civilian, things like that.
All Clans and Bloodlines currently noted in game can be found here. You said Bloodlines? So does that mean I can make one of those too?Yes, you can make a bloodline, but please be reasonable. Especially in the cases where a character doesn't have those abilities in the first place, we want to keep it from getting out of control.
So that just means that as long as you keep it understandable and not over the top insane (we promise we'll tell you) you can make one. If you're just converting your existing powers and calling it a bloodline, this too is acceptable.
Can I use existing bloodlines?Yes, you can! You can bring yourself into clans that already exist even, if there's a way to do so. A clan that has very defined and limited members would be far more difficult than say... another branch Hyuuga. Just keep in mind how that family would be though, because some wouldn't let their bloodline out of the clan.
Review & Response ProcessWhen do applications open?Applications are always open! They get checked over as they come in.
How long does it take to get a response? If your application needs revision, we reply immediately, if it doesn't, you'll get a reply three days after they've been reviewed. The reason for this is that this is an AU game and we prefer to have the players get final say.
When will I hear back about the final decision? This depends on how quickly a mod spots the application, but we promise you we won't leave you hanging more than a week, at most.
So I can app more than one character at a time then? No, we would prefer you wait until you get a response on one character before applying for the next. We don't, however, have any kind of time lag you have to wait for other than that.
RevisionsDoes that mean I get no chance of revision? No. Any revisions will be asked for by the mods after your application is looked over. The only applications that get shown to the players are applications the mods would accept as they are.
Then why let the players decide at all? There are three reasons for this sort of process actually.
The first is that no matter how good your mods, or how many, there will always be that character no one has heard of.The second is that we are world building, and any histories that come in for characters are going to become part of the foundation of the game. The last reason is that we want to keep the players aware of who is coming in, so that no new payers get overlooked. We want everyone to feel welcome!ChallengesWhat is application challenging?Application "challenges" are when the game receives (at the same time) two or more applications for the same character. Only one of a version of a character can be in game at a time, so only one application will be accepted. Thus the applications compete, or challenge, each other. You cannot challenge/apply for a character already currently in-game unless making a separate version agreed upon by the player in game already.
Do you allow application challenges? We did, but now that we have applications going up as we get them, it's become first come first serve.
Filling Out ApplicationsAre there any examples of filled out applications? There are!
Here is one example,
Here is another.
This is what the players vote on, so send it to us with HTML intact okay? (All the applications in that month were accepted by the way.)
How do you know what can go in histories? An overview of this is over here.
How long does my test drive have to be before I can use it?We'll need at least six comments from your character before we'll accept it as a sample. It doesn't all have to be with one character though! It can be among all replies to your character on the test drive.
I've been here before, can I app back in? What do I have to change? If there were any concerns about your application that you were told about after you were accepted the last time, we would like to see those fixed, as they would have been discussed with you, before we will put your application back up to be re-evaluated fresh by the current players. Otherwise, feel free to use the same application, just make sure it's organized by our current application form's standards.
We won't have a bias against anyone just because they dropped before. We know people have their reasons for leaving the game, and more than likely will be eager to see you return.
Anyone returning with a Canon-mode character will need to figure out if they want the character apped fresh or if they have to resolve what happened while their character was believed to be dead.
I'm ready! Where do I send my application? The mod email is sunshinemods@gmail.com. Be sure to put 'Application' as your subject line so that it doesn't get overlooked on accident!
Now, you're ready! Please keep the HTML intact instead of switching it to non-HTML though guys, as otherwise we have to edit your App before we post it for review.
This is the application for any character being converted to a native of the Sunshine universe.
This is the application for unaffiliated OCs and Canon versions of characters.
