Canon Abilities/Powers:
Physical Abilities: Karin’s physical abilities aren’t really shown a great deal. She’s shown to be capable of at the very least average speeds when running. Since she did graduate from the academy in Kusagakure it can be assumed that she has a passing understanding of taijutsu, however; she rarely gets into a true battle in canon so her exact capabilities can only be guessed at beyond what is shown. She showed herself to be at least somewhat competent to handle a close-range fight when she attempted to save Sasuke from Danzo after Taka infiltrated the Kage Summit.
Weapons: Much like her physical abilities Karin’s exact capabilities with standard ninja weapons is left to be inferred by the readers for the most part. There are a few panels that show her holding a kunai, but her primary role as a supporting member has lead to these moments as few and far between at best. She has shown a capability to use chakra chains much like Kushina in recent chapters; however it seems to be tied to her emotional state more than something she can actively control at this point. The one time she did use them though she managed to destroy parts Guruguru’s version of the True Several Thousands Hands technique. While the feat in itself is awesome, it seemed to be something of a side effect to her desire to reach Sasuke, since it was getting in her way.

Sunshineverse History: After Uzushiogakure was destroyed, Karin’s mother left like so many of her kin. Eventually she settled in Grass Country where she met her husband and gave birth to her baby girl. For a while Karin lived happily with her parents until the village her family lived in burnt to the ground. The only reason she survived was because she could sense the group was coming and ran. Something that she wishes her parents had listened to her about to this day. This is about where things diverge for Karin, instead of Orochimaru finding her and taking her in and raising her to be complicit in his experiments on others, Karin became of a ward of Kusagakure and enrolled in the villages’ ninja academy. Things seem fine for the most part Karin makes friends, studies, does everything one would expect a child to do in a Hidden village.
And then Kushina went on her quest to find her scattered clan to rebuild Uzushiogakure. Her travels eventually lead her to Kusagakure where Karin is now 9 years old and beginning another year at the academy. At first neither was very sure of the other, but when Karin showed she had the potential use chakra chains there wasn’t any doubt of Karin’s heritage as an Uzumaki and Kushina promptly took her in, having realized that she was the daughter of her sister.
For the next seven years Karin lived in Uzushiogakure as her aunts’ aid. Taking advantage of having a parental figure in her life again, Karin has learned as much as she possibly could from her aunt and the other adult ninja in the village when Kushina returned to Konoha to see her husband and son. It wasn’t until she was about fourteen that she started taking more of an active role in village management although, she knows that most of the adults are primarily humoring her when she bosses them around and hands out assignments.
Over the years she would visit Konoha periodically, more frequently when she was a child with her visits becoming less frequent as she’s gotten older. Not that she doesn’t want to see her cousin and uncle, but does believe that one of them needs to keep an eye on the village not that she expects the elders to run the fledgling village into the ground but it is her aunts dream for Uzushio to rise again and she’s going to make sure it happens.
At thirteen she was promoted to genin by Kushina under a field promotion clause in the village’s laws. She was the first Uzushio genin and has been impatiently waiting for the first academy graduation to occur in order to be assigned a team and enter the Chunin exams. She’s pretty sure she’s well enough prepared at this point and hopes that by or just after her sixteenth birthday she’ll have that promotion, she’s getting a little tired of Naruto teasing her about her continued genin status when he’s been chunin for a couple years now.

Justus: Having been raised for nearly half her life among other Uzumaki, Karin has been taught a good deal of sealing jutsu. Her seals are actually quite good given her age, but she’s put in a lot of hours practicing and with Kushina as the interim village leader it was expected she’d put in the effort to have near mastery over making various seals.

She’s actually pretty good at it and she takes great pride in her ability to be as much an active participant in a fight as she is able to take on a supporting role. Standing at only 5’3” she’s easily overlooked in a fight, but she’s not a pushover by any means. More it is an illusion fed by her choice of dress, as her clothes show off a good amount of skin and unguarded areas. Her purple top cut to stop at the end of her ribcage with a high collar and full sleeves. She pairs it with a pair of black short shorts and black thigh high tights and black boots. In canon she wears the high collar and full sleeves to hide her bite marks, but in game the bite marks don’t exist and her wardrobe choices are personal preference.

If someone is actually paying attention it becomes painfully obvious that she’s interested as she goes to extra lengths to be cute and will pitch her voice up into a range she feels is more pleasing to the listeners’ ear. On top of the manipulation of her voice she’ll feign an innocent appearance under the belief that they might find her more attractive. Ironically, this doesn’t mean she is above going after exactly what she wants. She knows how to be forward and has no compunctions about actively pursuing her crush. She’ll proposition them or ask them out on dates. It should be mentioned that her concept of attraction is based a great deal on her perception of the individuals’ chakra. If the chakra signature of the person isn’t pleasing to her she’ll put her walls up real fast and shut the person out. Likewise when she does find someone she’s attracted to, she loves blindly overlooking many of their faults or if she does notice them is quick to forgive if they make even the most cursory effort at apologizing for a wrong or fixing them.
By and large Karin is very focused. She is task oriented and once she is given an assignment she follows through until the end. There is not stopping in the middle and it will take a good deal of convincing her to even entertain the idea of ditching her task in favor of new one. There are only a handful of arguments that will have the slightest chance of being successful in persuading her and most of them have to do with death of her superior, and even then she’ll put up a fight first. Though there are certain situations where her opposition will be a front and she’ll give up at the drop of time after having seemingly decided that she isn’t going abandon her task.
You could just as much attribute her putting up a fight to her simply being stubborn or her being difficult depending on the personality of the other person. She is both those things and one would be so surprised at how often they overlap for Karin. Generally speaking Karin holds onto her beliefs with the tightest of grips possible. She believes those who raised her and depend on her care about her even if only in a tiny way and that she can depend on them. Sometimes she’ll be difficult just for the hell of it. This is doubly so when she doesn’t like someone or they’re getting on her nerves. She actually finds it sort of fun to watch them flip out because she isn’t doing what they want.
Karin is impatient; she wants so much to have everything immediately. She puts the work in but she does tend to get annoyed when she doesn’t immediately get her desired outcome. She understands that some things will take time and others will come more quickly but when a progression stalls or seems to move at a snail’s pace she has a habit of falling into short bouts of melancholy. It doesn’t often last long as she shares a rather boundless amount of optimism with Naruto, but she will sink and over analyze everything that she did or didn’t do before bouncing back.

+ Karin is quite intelligent. She can read situations with a clarity that makes her a valuable member of any team she is placed on. She can detect patterns and then adjust her own squads’ movement or actions to mislead or entrap based on the needs of their mission. While she uses her intelligence to help herself and her teammates in the field or in diplomatic situations, she doesn’t lord her intelligence over others in social situations. If anything she plays the part of someone who is average instead.
+ She’s got a strong mind, one that could (and has proven to be strong enough to withstand interrogation in canon) withstand interrogation by even the most experienced and skilled of interrogators. This goes hand in hand with her exceptional intelligence. If it helps her to play dumb or mentally infirm she will to survive an interrogation.
+ She’s very responsible. Having spent a few years looking after herself because her parents died, Karin has learned to be responsible with her money as much as with her work. She doesn’t spend frivolously and she doesn’t shirk her duties simply because there is something better going on outside. She she’s capable of getting distracted as much as the next person, but she has an overdeveloped sense of responsibility when it comes to her position as Kushina’s aid.
+/- Once Karin finds someone to put up on a pedestal she is devoted to that person to the point of being unreasonable. She actually suspends her own intelligence when it comes to whoever has won her deep affections and it makes her incredibly easy to manipulate if the person so chooses to use her in such a way.
- Like her aunt and cousin, Karin’s emotions can shift from kind to belligerent at the drop of a hat. It doesn’t take much to draw out her ire; actually it could be something as simple as a well meaning comment being misinterpreted. Needless to say being on the wrong end of her fury is not a place many wish to be and hope to survive.
- Physically speaking Karin isn’t the strongest, but she shouldn’t automatically be considered the weakest either. She is a force to be reckoned with when people upset her. What she lacks in physical strength she makes up for with pure determination and mental agility.
- It’s sort of ironic that for as responsible and controlled Karin is she’s actually quite boy crazy. It’s actually something of a problem as the boy she’s currently chasing can distract her from most other tasks at hand. It isn’t so much of a problem when she’s off duty but it can definitely be a cause of tension when she is on duty as she can be found mooning after her crush instead of doing her work.

She’d taken care of all the correspondence and paperwork that she was technically allowed to, and what she couldn’t was stacked neatly on the village leaders’ desk. Studying the neat piles she heaves a sigh and exits the room, gently pulling the door closed behind her.
It wasn’t often that she ran out of work to do when her aunt was away, mostly because it bothered her when she did. Figuring that it would be a good idea to walk the village to fill the time at the very least she exits the administrative building. Reaching the paved road outside she turns heading toward the shoreline at the far edge of the village. It was gorgeous she recognized the beauty of the world around her with the sky blue overhead and the fluffy clouds.
She just felt like if she wasn’t doing something productive she wasn’t being responsible and the last thing she wanted was for her aunt or any other council elder to think she wasn’t responsible. Kicking at the sand of the shoreline she drops down and pulls her knees up to her chest. Red eyes watching he waves roll in as she let her mind wander. Carefully she put together a list of things she could do tomorrow to keep herself busy.
Tomorrow she would not find herself without anything to do by the middle of the afternoon. She would not allow herself to get so caught up that she completed everything without thinking. Scooping up some sand she let the grains fall through her fingers almost absently before pushing herself back to her feet. Enough moping she was going to go train at least that would get the restless energy out of her for the moment.

Carefully she put together a list of things she could do tomorrow to keep herself busy.
Tomorrow she would not find herself without anything to do by the middle of the afternoon. She would not allow herself to get so caught up that she completed everything without thinking. Scooping up some sand she let the grains fall through her fingers almost absently before pushing herself back to her feet. Enough moping she was going to go train at least that would get the restless energy out of her for the moment.
Tomorrow she would tackle her list.

Okay the first academy graduation has come and gone. This summer is going to be wonderful. I finally get to participate in the Chunin Exams. I have so much work I need to do. I refuse to have to go through the exams more than once to get promoted.
Anyone else looking forward to them?
