Sunshine History: Mika Yamada is from a family of blacksmiths: some work as shinobi while almost all are involved in the smithing business. Her immediate family consists of her mother, father and four brothers. Her mother and grandmother immigrated from an [unaffiliated] island east of Kirigakure and have resided in Konoha since the end of the second war. Being from a very different culture, Mika’s grandmother was firmly against the idea of Mika entering the academy to become a shinobi. It was enough that even her mother protested. The big drive for Mika’s choice came from when she heard of in stories about other, more famous shinobi. It really amazed her how these people were capable of incredible feats. There were also other women in the Yamada family who were powerful and accomplished which further inspired the young Mika. While her mother enjoys working at the hospital and her grandmother stays at home preparing food for the family, Mika never imagined herself truly being happy there. It didn’t help that she always felt like her parents’ relationship was very imbalanced in power and Nalani seemed to have little control in the home life. She wanted to be strong so that a man wouldn’t have power in her life.
Mika’s hard headedness won out in the end and they grudgingly accepted her path. Still they can’t help mentioning what a good housewife she could be when they visit her. As of now her family life is... tumultuous for lack of a better word. While her mother and grandmother care for her they believe a woman’s place is in the home caring for her husband and children. At the very least she shouldn’t be making a living putting herself or others in danger. When dealing with these two Mika to just lets them talk on and on about what she should be doing before politely nodding and thanking them for the [unwanted] advice. Her grandmother can get into an argument like no tomorrow but it tapers off when one or both women decide it’s time for supper. Mika doesn’t let the discouraging talk bother her too much, since she knows that it’s coming from their concern. When her father Daichi is around though, conversations are much more tense as he is aware of her orientation and firmly believes that her liking women is a “phase” to get over. Often these confrontations lead to one of the two storming out and leaving her mother Nalani to deal with the aftermath.
Mika’s four brother are on much better terms with her. Masaru and Masuyo, fraternal twins and the oldest of the four, [though Masaru wins by a good eight seconds] enjoy Mika’s company in small doses. Masaru is much more family oriented and will try finding men for his sister to meet, which indicates some unwillingness to believe that she’s into women. Mika’s more amused than offended by this. Masuyo unfortunately is a lot of their father, tense and awkward with emotional displays. He still accepts the bentos his sister makes even into adulthood. Mika actually tries to find some women for him, though it often backfires and she ends up with them. Michi, the third brother, is rash and inconsiderate, but he’s rarely malicious and more often than not is unaware that his actions are inappropriate. His gluten allergy actually inspired Mika to look into new recipes and take on a low gluten diet. [So much for ramen everyday.] Now the youngest brother Makishi took after their mother. Quiet and gentle, not really suited for the life of a shinobi but he desperately wanted to be like the rest of the family. Like Mika his sexuality isn’t the norm but he keeps it concealed, afraid of how his father will react. Mika has a good idea of what’s going on and silently supports the youngest. She can easily say they have the closest relationship in the family.
In the academy Mika was a very rough and tumble sort of child, constantly in fights with other students. She graduated from the academy at the age of ten, and over time her temperament evened out with experience and several successful missions with her genin team. She later was promoted to chunin after the second attempt on the exams at age 12.
The defining point in Mika’s life was at the age of 15. Due to her budding skills as a historian and archeologist she was selected to following a team across the continent as an apprentice. Over nine months the group encountered many pockets of diversity within the larger villages [civilian and shinobi alike]. As she encountered the unique clans Mika became even more intrigued by them and attempted, usually unsuccessfully, to learn more about their lives. One thing that became evident was how these groups were sometimes treated with indifference or disgust by other villagers. Mika found herself incredibly moved by their plights of and this began her journey of advocating the preservation of bloodlines. This led onto later events in her life, with Mika frequently exploring texts and artifacts to learn more about the origins of unusual clans. Mika’s connections to these people, her determination in digging up the past and skills of diplomacy make her vital on missions involving intel gathering across borders. She also networks with archeology teams across the continent and travels to work sites thanks to private funding.Her work takes place in the Konoha Main Research Facility handling historic artifacts and code breaking.
Sunshine Abilities/Powers: Genjutsu: Mika possesses the minimum required abilities for genjutsu, enough to break out of mid-level genjutsus should she be caught in one. Mika never uses this in combat.
Ninjutsu: She has a solid arsenal of fire and water jutsus which are used more for diversions as she often creates steam by mixing her fire and water techniques. Not a prefered method of combat, but good for creating distance when needed.
Bukijutsu: Coming from a line of blacksmiths Mika is proficient with several weapons. Her preferred are nunchaku and staffs. Her staffs are often modified to reveal pointed steel ends.
Taijutsu: The primary method of battle for Mika. Despite her size she is extremely fast and delivers powerful kicks. Her style is typically countering her opponents and causing non-lethal damage.
Appearance: Stands around 5’11” [181 cm], very trim with muscular arms and legs along with a small bust. She is mixed race and has naturally tan looking skin which darkens in the sun. Her natural hair is copper brown and very wiry when not chemically treated. Often it is dyed, partially shaved and kept back in a ponytail.
Has a full sleeve Aztec style tattoo on her left arm depicting the origins of shinobi [which features Kaguya Otsutsuki, the chakra tree, etc.] and is currently working on the tattoo on her right arm which initially has a lotus design on the upper shoulder.
Mika also has several piercings on her face [septum, lip, eyebrow]
Personality: Mika is loud, boisterous, and often flirtatious with other women. Mika can often wind up in multiple relationships, which doesn’t always work. At times she can be impulsive in her personal life and reacts in an emotional manner. Often she comes off as tumultuous and unstable but in reality Mika is simply overexcited. She is just as capable of containing herself on missions and can be surprisingly mature [at least her friends would be quite surprised in any case.] At times Mika comes off as subdued, normally after talking with one of her parents.
Having four brothers, while taxing, does bring out a lot of good in Mika. She tends to have a sisterly attitude toward young boys and girls. This usually comes out as friendly advice and an open ear for their concerns. At the very least she hopes to give some solace to kids that are having a hard time, as she can relate to the struggles they’re experiencing.
Mika is dedicated to protecting her family, the village, and its residents but she definitely feels a higher calling to preserve the uniqueness of other cultures, bloodlines and history itself. As Mika has delved further into the past she’s learned about a lot of terrible things that have been done to suppress minorities. Mika firmly believes in personal autonomy above all else. As can be seen when she goes on one of her advocacy rants.
The experiences of her travels have affected how she works and interacts with others on a daily basis. Mika is always willing to keep herself open to other’s opinions and beliefs. She is able to show respect even if it isn’t something she didn’t like. The downside to this is that Mika can become a little too neutral and sometimes runs into a bit of trouble making decisions on whose plans are worth pursuing. Should a companion make ignorant remarks, Mika is always ready to swiftly and firmly correct them. So Mika’s politically correct, maybe a little too correct sometimes.
One of her weaker points is her tendency to be flighty, though Mika’s flightiness is really just from her doing so many things at once. She likes taking on new projects and usually gets tired of them after a while. It sort of feeds into her pack rat habit too: lots of little things that pile up and she has a hard time throwing things out.

+Attentive to relationships: She is excellent at remembering dates and other little details about the people in her life!
+Open to opinions: With all her travels, Mika has come to value the importance of being open minded and willing to hear everyone out.
+Excellent taijutsu/physical strength: A direct result of her training and Mika’s preferred method of combat.
+/- Effortlessly gives love: Mika feels almost compelled to give love to the world, she’s seen the damage hatred can do and tries her best to counter it with her own positivity. Even if it comes down to random acts of kindness she tries to brighten the world up in her own way. This also can lead to some unfortunate situations where Mika has “led” people on or she has unknowingly created problems in other’s relationships. The majority of these issues are resolved with a civil conversation thankfully.
+/-Militant in training/exercise: Partly to maintain her figure as he is prone to weight gain and also because it’s the one time where Mika can go on autopilot and not think about what needs to be done for the day. The downside is Mika overexerts herself quite frequently and tends to be obsessed with her figure.
+/-Abstract thinking: Her thought process is rather odd, often Mika tends to see the symbolism in things whether they actually exist or not. Quite often she ends up getting a rather skewed view on her surroundings and develops fixations.
+/-Strong in convictions: A double edged sword. Mika isn’t easily swayed by pretty words or government officials in changing her convictions. It’s also the greatest source of trouble for Mika.
-Too trusting: A downside to being so caring, Mika understands that she’s prone to heartache, often losing love ones whether to the hazards of work or to more mundane problems.
- Flighty: Mika often goes into personal projects with gusto but will soon lose interest in them. She just takes so much upon herself that little things will be easily abandoned. So tiny origami birds have found their resting place in Mika’s dusty corners and closet, and there’s the odd ceramic plate in her dining set...
-Poor at genjutsu: Her weakest area in combat. Mainly because she relies so heavily on her taijutsu and doesn’t feel a need to really worry about that. Helps that she’s usually teamed up with a high level genjutsu user anyways.
-Sometimes indecisive: Letting everyone voice an opinion...isn’t always the best thing to do. Mika worries about being impartial and ends up feeling torn even with minor decisions at times. So she’s rarely put in charge of group outings unless she gets total control.
-A picky eater: Low gluten, no gluten, vegan, all meat… Mika goes through a lot of diets. Have to keep her figure after all.

This is exactly what Mika wants in her life right now, a nice big stack of papers greeting her first thing in the morning. There isn't enough coffee in the world to cheer her. Oh well, these little procedures are a necessary evil. Honestly it's more interesting than normal paperwork, the staff are quirkier and a hell of a lot more entertaining. Darkly tanned fingers grab the stack and fan through it. Looks like a translation job. Of course, the next question being where is the person that dropped these off? There isn't exactly a context to this. No sooner does the thought run through her mind before a familiar curly mop of hair come into view. Looks like this'll be a good day after all.

"Haaah, Mika. I've got another favor to ask of you. How busy are you?" Of course, he was going to drop all of that work on her either way, busy or not. Those were just the formalities. He couldn't rush in and set them on her desk now, could he? But Shisui looked different today-- a lot tired and haggard than he'd been a few days ago. He looked like he hadn't really slept in days. And if she asked? He'd probably say he hadn't.
"Ne, I've always got time for you! Come on. Sit down," She definitely noticed something was...off with the man. He looked almost dead on his feet. "Sleep for a few hours while you're at it." The papers are carefully pushed aside if Shisui does actually take her up on that offer. Wouldn't want his little head messing up her desk. "Everything okay senpai?" Another formality, Mika didn't want to get scolded for acting too informal again.

He wasn't going to take her up on that offer, obviously. One wasn't really allowed to fall asleep on the job; how unprofessional did she want him to be under her watch?! But he did take the seat, and pushed a stack of papers in front of her. "It's code. I need you to work your magic on them." ....And yet he hadn't really brought her the entire document. Only bits and pieces of it. Fishy? Just a little, perhaps.
"Hm? Yes, of course. Why'd you ask?" Shisui was feigning innocence, and those sleep rimmed eyes weren't hiding too much.
Well, she won't tell anyone! Honest. Mika's lucky enough to not be under constant surveillance so a few winks never hurt anybody. Holding back a sigh the younger woman carefully takes the new stack and skims it. Already she can spot discrepancies, like something was missing. Shisui isn't sloppy, so it's a tip off. "Sure. I can do that." Emerald eyes meet striking black, an unspoken question between them. "Oh really? The bags under your eyes look like they're ready for a round trip vacation."

He knows that she's picked up on it already, and almost feels guilty. But it was information he was not at liberty to openly discuss with her. He could, however, feed her bits and pieces and hope she'd catch on-- which he had no doubt shewould. That way, it wouldn't necessarily be him responsible for letting the cat out of the bag. "Today? Like. Right now?" It was amatter of urgency, and he'd barged in without an appointment. "Hey oi, don't make fun of the bags under my eyes. They're a sign that I've been working hard, like the good shinobi I am. Now. What can you tell me about the document?"
Oh it isn't the first time she hasn't gotten the whole picture. Mika, despite her credentials and family, is still in all respects a small fry. Mid level clearance at best and even then the best morsels of info are out of reach. It's necessary for security and Mika isn't normally bothered. Though, if this was involving people outside the village...then her interest was most certainly piqued. "Judging from that response...guessing this is a bit more important than whatever I was doing." At least more important to certain people. Hey, they're paying her so priorities are priorities. Shisui would have her back at least, she appreciates what little he can do for her.
"You don't have to tell me how good you are senpai.~ I'd pretty sure most of the people here look just as camera ready." Her eyes finally broke away from Shisui's as she scans the papers. It's a cold read really, but Mika's got an idea of what the communication is about. "Now hold on, I know I'm good but even genius like mine needs a few moments.." The joking aside her jaw hardens visibly. Even without the missing portions Mika recognizes the style of code and wording. She'd seen something similar almost four years ago. Disturbingly similar. "Sounds like vendors. Have a new shipment of wheat, dried meats and fruits." Of course they weren't selling wheat and dried foodstuffs. Traffickers, probably had a fresh batch of victims ready for the black market. Even with Mika's best effort her hands trembled slightly at the thought. "So, they're meeting a few kilometers from the border of our territory."
Now sharp eyes look to Shisui, a mix of anger and determination in them. "You ready to pick up a shipment?"

He couldn't rush in and set them on her desk now, could he? But Shisui looked different today-- a lot tired and haggard than he'd been a few days ago. He looked like he hadn't really slept in days. And if she asked? He'd probably say he hadn't.
"Ne, I've always got time for you! Come on. Sit down," She definitely noticed something was...off with the man. He looked almost dead on his feet. "Sleep for a few hours while you're at it." The papers are carefully pushed aside if Shisui does actually take her up on that offer. Wouldn't want his little head messing up her desk. "Everything okay senpai?" Another formality, Mika didn't want to get scolded for acting too informal again.

He wasn't going to take her up on that offer, obviously. One wasn't really allowed to fall asleep on the job; how unprofessional did she want him to be under her watch?! But he did take the seat, and pushed a stack of papers in front of her. "It's code. I need you to work your magic on them." ....And yet he hadn't really brought her the entire document. Only bits and pieces of it. Fishy? Just a little, perhaps.
"Hm? Yes, of course. Why'd you ask?" Shisui was feigning innocence, and those sleep rimmed eyes weren't hiding too much.
Well, she won't tell anyone! Honest. Mika's lucky enough to not be under constant surveillance so a few winks never hurt anybody. Holding back a sigh the younger woman carefully takes the new stack and skims it. Already she can spot discrepancies, like something was missing. Shisui isn't sloppy, so it's a tip off. "Sure. I can do that." Emerald eyes meet striking black, an unspoken question between them. "Oh really? The bags under your eyes look like they're ready for a round trip vacation."

He knows that she's picked up on it already, and almost feels guilty. But it was information he was not at liberty to openly discuss with her. He could, however, feed her bits and pieces and hope she'd catch on-- which he had no doubt shewould. That way, it wouldn't necessarily be him responsible for letting the cat out of the bag. "Today? Like. Right now?" It was amatter of urgency, and he'd barged in without an appointment. "Hey oi, don't make fun of the bags under my eyes. They're a sign that I've been working hard, like the good shinobi I am. Now. What can you tell me about the document?"
Oh it isn't the first time she hasn't gotten the whole picture. Mika, despite her credentials and family, is still in all respects a small fry. Mid level clearance at best and even then the best morsels of info are out of reach. It's necessary for security and Mika isn't normally bothered. Though, if this was involving people outside the village...then her interest was most certainly piqued. "Judging from that response...guessing this is a bit more important than whatever I was doing." At least more important to certain people. Hey, they're paying her so priorities are priorities. Shisui would have her back at least, she appreciates what little he can do for her.
"You don't have to tell me how good you are senpai.~ I'd pretty sure most of the people here look just as camera ready." Her eyes finally broke away from Shisui's as she scans the papers. It's a cold read really, but Mika's got an idea of what the communication is about. "Now hold on, I know I'm good but even genius like mine needs a few moments.." The joking aside her jaw hardens visibly. Even without the missing portions Mika recognizes the style of code and wording. She'd seen something similar almost four years ago. Disturbingly similar. "Sounds like vendors. Have a new shipment of wheat, dried meats and fruits." Of course they weren't selling wheat and dried foodstuffs. Traffickers, probably had a fresh batch of victims ready for the black market. Even with Mika's best effort her hands trembled slightly at the thought. "So, they're meeting a few kilometers from the border of our territory."
Now sharp eyes look to Shisui, a mix of anger and determination in them. "You ready to pick up a shipment?"

Yeah I need to clean up and I get enough about that from the boys when they come by. Keep saying I can’t keep a man if I live like this. They’re the ones insisting I have to settle down when I’m barely twenty. Yes I know you married Papa when you weren’t much older than me but things are different now. Okay they aren’t that different but most women don’t marry so young. You’re ten years younger than Papa so I guess I can see why you didn’t wait. Otherwise he would had died from old age. Okay that’s off topic. Well, you really can calm down. I PROMISE I’ll come by, unattended by a male, for the party. I’ll even bring some food because I actually know how to cook unless most of the men in the family.
