Tenten
Name: Tenten
Canon: Naruto
Character Journal:
tenten_san
Gender: Female
Age: 16
Birthday: March 9
Village Affiliation: Konohagakure
Rank: Chuunin
Canon History: http://naruto.wikia.com/wiki/Tenten
Canon Abilities/Powers: Mainly listed as a weapon specialist, implying that she is well versed in most if not all known shinobi tools. Works mostly as a long to midrange fighter in conjunction with he
teammates' closerange battle techniques. Despite that, because she is also a student of Maito Gai, Tenten possesses extensive knowledge on handtohand, close quarter taijutsu combat skills and is considered one of the fastest kunoichi in the village, if not the fastest of her generation. It has been noted on several occassions that she possesses perfect accuracy when hitting both stationary and moving targets, hitting her mark 100/100 times, which also suggests a high level of intelligence and calculating skills. In most of her appearances, it has been shown that she possesses some knowledge of Fuuinjutsu, sealing away weapons and objects of varying sizes, from senbon needles to something as large as an entire ship (as seen in the anime). Her ability to use the Bashousen and withstand its high chakra absorption levels suggests a decent amount of chakra reserves.
Appearance: In every sense of the word, Tenten is what most people would call typical. Dark hair, dark eyes, medium height and an all too average frame for a young woman her age, although her muscles are notably more toned and conditioned from the extensive training and development that comes with being one of the more active kunoichi of Konoha. She stands at a modest five foot five/ five foot six inches give or take a few centimeters or so, and weighs roughly somewhere between one hundred and one hundred ten pounds depending on how well she's been able to maintain her muscle mass now that her team is not around as much to push and drive her to her limits.
Her clothes, much like her general appearance, seem to be greatly influenced by Chinese culture. Most notably, her hair. More often than not, you would find it pulled up and out of the way, bound into two tight buns set on the crown of her head. But that's not to say that they are a permanent fixture. Only a convenience in the midst of battle. She has no time to worry about things like appearances when she's taking down an entire army, and hair tends to get in the way of pulling sharp blades and unraveling long scrolls of artillery. Her clothes are loose and flowing, allowing maneuverability necessary to accomplish the amazing aerobatics and sky battles she tends to implore during her fights as well as facilitate her occasional need to hide weaponry on her persons. On missions, she can be seen carting around a giant scroll on her back. When necessary, she can also be seen with a number of smaller scrolls strapped at her hips.
Personality: Originating from a middleclass background, Tenten knows the meaning of hard work and dedication. These principles she puts into every aspect of her life despite constantly being underestimated by her opponents. However, she has learned to utilize that to her advantage, often times using it to help her deceive and overwhelm her adversaries. Often overlooked by others but always a presence, whether in the lives of all those around her or just in general, she serves as a maternal figure and puts forth an even mix of determination, confidence, and respect to all those around her (when she receives the same in return) with an ever mellow attitude. She provides a quiet comfort to anyone she comes across.
But only those who prove worthy of her trust are privileged to such kind treatment.
To enemies, strangers, and all those who would seek to oppose those that she chooses to align herself with, Tenten is relentless and unforgiving, cool and calculative with an aggressive drive that could match or surpass any she comes across. Knowledgeable in the fighting arts, she has the use of a wide array of weapons at her disposal, coupled with amazingly perfected accuracy that can be attributed to her promising advances in math. Until a person gains her trust, she appears to be constantly defensive and suspicious, all of which are the lingering effects from years of essentially being a child soldier for the village, though she appears to have a soft spot for mistreated women and lost souls. Tenten is not exactly antisocial, but she has a tendency to blend into the background, which in turn actually aids in her observational skills.
At first glance she does not seem the type to willing join such a profession, something that becomes more prominent as one gets to know her on a more personal level. Tenten values honor and respect above all else and will not hesitate to fight for it. While mostly reserved (blending into the background), she is certainly one of the more aggressive kind of girls, which more than likely keeps her stuck under the label of tomboy. More of a jeans and tee kind of girl, Tenten is always ready to get down and dirty with the guys. But that’s not to say that she doesn’t have the capacity to be feminine as well when the mood strikes her. Her only noticeable flaw would be the lack of confidence concerning her love life. Not one to go searching for a relationship, she is at a loss when one comes looking for her. And as comfortable as she is with the boys, it’s a whole different story when faced with one she actually likes in that way

With the possibility of her learning Water as well as she studies and trains to become a Jounin. As well as an extended knowledge and use of chakra strings, which allow her to call back and sometimes redirect her weapons with a simple tug of her fingers and a little flux in her chakra control.
Needless to say, you don't wanna get on this girl's bad side.
Sunshine History: A lot of aspects of Tenten's life is a balance of parallels.
In a profession a lifestyle filled with deception and confusion, Tenten had known from a very early age that not everything was what it seemed. For the most part, both her parents belonged to the strict codes of the working class. Her mother made her living as a Konoha kunoichi. Her father, a former shinobi from a foreign village, lived out the rest of his days as an artisan skilled in crafting beautiful works from steel and wood. His specialty was weaponry. Because of this, Tenten likes to view herself as being well balanced between the logic if reality that her mother taught, and the fantasy of creativity that was her father's livelihood.
On a brisk and hazy morning just before dawn on March 9th, she was born. She was, perhaps, smaller than average. But with her loud cries there was no mistake that she would be strong.
For years, Tenten lived with her parents in an upstairs apartment above the metal shop that her father ran and owned. Like most intraining shinobis, she entered the academy at the age of 7 and quickly discovered that she was not like most of the other girls. She was attentive and just as hard working as both of her parents. And the teachers were all well impressed with how proficient this unassuming little girl seemed to be in her kunai and shuriken training.
Graduating at age 12, she was assigned to Team Gai alongside Hyuuga Neji and Rock Lee. And with that, she began her promising career as a kunoichi of Konoha as well, following in the footsteps of her mother.
Unfortunately, Tenten's life is not without it's moments of tragedies as well. At age 9, Tenten lost her mother, who died from complications in the delivery room. The child, a boy, was born three months prematurely. He did not survive the night. It was her first real sense of loss. Tenten, however, has always been her father's daughter. And for a majority of her life, she spent her spare time working and learning alongside her father, studying his craft and making it her own. It is from him in which Tenten gained expanded on her knowledge as a weapon specialist, mastering the use of every and all form of weaponry from the orders he would received in his business. So, when her father was found dead on the floors of his own shop at the age of 14, the kunoichi had been torn and devastated.
With no other living relative, she becomes the sole owner of her father's business. But Tenten does not have the heart, neither to stay in that empty apartment she once called home nor to sell it. And so, while the property and the building remains in her name, the kunoichi rents out the space for a modest price, under the condition that it remained a metal shop and that she be allowed to make use of it every once in a while when the need and want arose.
Because of these events, Tenten has developed a tendency to be a little distant from others despite being the caring person that she is, for the simple fact that she fears losing someone else she cares deeply about.
With such a big and open heart, it's easily damaged and she isn't sure if she could handle another loss.
That was part of the reason she became a shinobi: so that she could help people. There was a noticeable shift in her personality after the death of her father that brought her to a very dark place and she became extremely closed up, even to the teammates that she had formed a profound connection to through the many years they had been a team together. She's since recovered from that and has returned to her cheerful routine, but there are still small parts of herself that she still won't share with others because really, everyone has secrets they keep from the world.
Prose sample: Sidestepping what would likely have been a killing blow had he managed to connect, she twisted her body around in midair. And in a last second decision to tip the scales to her advantage, the kunoichi decidedly stretched the reach of her arm as far as it would go, managing to close her fingers tightly around the target as she let her momentum finish the rest of the work. Seconds later, satisfaction and a good amount of amusement was had as his maneuverability became compromised, the shinobi practically stumbling over his own feet to keep from falling.
He really should've known better...
It was, perhaps, a cheap trick, as he'd said later on. But as she'd learned through the years, all tactics were fair game under the terms of war. Or, at least, a mock battle between two shinobi who held some amount of respect for one another. And, for the record, the kunoichi was more than willing to give and use every reason to get him to stop wearing that godawful accessory around his waist.
She was never one to focus to much on fashion. When placed on a team with two grown men who preferred to go bounding about in skintight green spandex suits and orange leg warmers, fashion was the least of her concerns. The emerald eyesores, at least, held a specific function to both Lee and Gai sensei's training methods. Speed was the bread and butter of a taijtusu specialist. And while it left nothing to the imagination, the suits did serve their intended purpose. With no resistance against the wind and air, their movements could only come faster. A few thick chords of rope tied around the waist was hardly as practical.
It was a thinly veiled codpiece, at best.
The deep scowl on his face as he fumbled to keep his pants up and somewhat modest said that he probably believed otherwise.
"Hey, don't look at me. You're the one who chose to wear that" And here, she made some wild gesture at his entire attire, seeing very little function in anything he wore. "out in public."

Kankuro.
I know that you were expecting me to report in for training within the week, and I have received your inquiries concerning my whereabouts. It was my every intention of arriving with the last envoy sent to Suna.
However. Complications from my last mission have stalled any travel plans, until the bones heal and muscles regrow.
The medics estimate a month of recovery.
[ Pauses, knitting her brows and giving a soft sigh. ]
I understand how inconvenient that is for you, particularly considering how reluctant you were in agreeing to train me. If this changes the arrangement, I fully accept the consequences. Your schedule is probably fairly busy as it is. I only felt it right to inform you of the situation before your opinion of me suffered any more than it already had.
Not. That your opinion matters. Much.
Only in the sense that it would be advantageous for me in my pursuit of becoming a Jounin.
[ Pauses again. Considers scraping the whole thing and starting over. But hey, she's gotten this
far... ]
In any case, let me know if you are still willing to training me on my stringwork, and I will be sure to keep you posted on my recovery. Until then...
