Canon History: Shishi’s history on Naru Wikia
Canon Abilities/Powers:
The body flicker - A high speed movement technique wherein the user can travel from point A to point B at an untraceable speed, so much so that it looks as though they were teleporting. Shisui was hailed as ‘Shisui of the Body Flicker’, indicating that he was a master at the technique. The technique does involve chakra, and the amount of chakra used depends on the distance to be travelled.
Three-tomoe sharingan – includes this set of skills. Shisui has of yet not been able to use Susanoo.
Mangekyo sharingan - He is one of the few Uchiha clan members to awaken the mangekyo sharingan. Shisui’s mangekyo grants him a unique genjutsu: Kotoamatsukami. Both his eyes are capable of using Kotoamatsukami. This technique allows him to enter an opponent’s mind and take complete control of it, manipulate a person’s mind and implant false experiences into them. Shisui does not require eye contact when using Kotoamatsukami.
Other jutsu – Shisui is well equipped with an arsenal of fire-based jutsu as is required of any Uchiha.
Physical tools - Apart from the basic ninja tools, Shisui uses a tanto (a Japanese fixed-blade knife) that is strapped onto the back of his shoulder.
Sunshineverse History:
Born to Uchiha Kagami and a younger kunoichi of the Uchiha clan, Shisui was brought into the world during the Third Ninja War. At the time of his birth, Kagami had been deployed elsewhere in battle. Shisui’s mother would die before he reached the age of three, a period in which Shisui would have been living temporarily with Uchiha relatives. Kagami would come into the boy’s life just months before his third birthday, and for the first time in his life, Shisui learns what it is like to be loved unconditionally, no longer having to be an outsider in a relative’s home.
Growing up during the Third War meant there was not much of a childhood for Shisui or the other children. However, guided by his father to see the bigger picture and to keep the Will of Fire strong in his heart—strong enough that he didn’t despair—Shisui learned to smile amidst hardships. Greatly influenced by his father’s example, Shisui adopted a positive, yet pragmatic, approach to life both as a member of the Uchiha clan as well as a citizen of Konoha.
At a very young age, Shisui took an interest in his younger cousin Itachi, whose quiet, perceptive nature appealed to him. Soon they were best friends, and Shisui may have taken on the role of the protective older brother as well.
He would enter the Academy at six and graduate as a genin at eight, eventually making Chuunin at around eleven years of age. Young as he was, but also being the son of Uchiha Kagami, Shisui had the opportunity of being taught skills at a very early age. Plus, being a fast learner, he picked up on ninjutsu and other techniques pretty fast, soon earning recognition as an up-and-coming genius. Kagami would teach him what he’d copied of Tobirama Senju’s hiraishin, a technique that Shisui would personalize from thereon and ultimately be known for it as Konoha’s Shunshin-no-Shisui.
Sometime before the age of five, Shisui learned that he had a rare disorder that didn’t allow him to feel pain the same way normal people would do. As a young child, he was always unintentionally rough, unable to understand why the same force used on himself never hurt, while it did others. He would also bear cuts and gashes but never really realize he had them on him until somebody pointed the fact out. The realization that he was different dawned on him the day he ran home with a baby bird in his hands to show Kagami. Upon unclasping those tiny hands, Shisui realized that the animal had stopped breathing. Every attempt to bring it back to life had failed, and Shisui had been beside himself with grief. It would take the boy months to find the courage to pet an animal again, but eventually, he learned how to be gentle. Yet Shisui is, to this day, wary of medics or anybody who dealt with drugs or needles, thanks to a mission that would go wrong around the time he made Chuunin, involving Shisui being drugged without his knowledge and never having felt the needle jab his skin.
Over the years he would come to be Itachi’s mentor of sorts, not only in imparting jutsu knowledge, but also rubbing off on him intellectually. Eventually, Itachi would come to surpass him, a fact that makes Shisui proud of his cousin to no end even to this day. At sixteen, Shisui would make tokubetsu jounin. Having awakened his Mangekyo sharingan by now, Shisui found himself struggling under the weight of the responsibility placed upon him now since word got out of his abilities in wielding Kotoamatsukami. At eighteen, his protective side would result in him indirectly interfering with one of Itachi’s missions, and event that resulted in him waking up to the realization that respect and trust went hand in hand. It was a turning point for Shisui in which he fully realized Itachi as an equal.
Shisui would become closely involved in clan politics, especially during the period of unrest, though he would be one of the very few Uchiha who refused to pick a side. With Uchiha Obito succeeding Namikaze Minato as Hokage, however, and the Uchiha being more welcomed and assimilated into the rest of the village, Shisui decides to move out into his own apartment. The move to him is somewhat symbolic of a new age.
Along the way, Shisui would approach Haruno Sakura with a request to unofficially train her in genjutsu-- the details of which he keeps secret for fear of stirring up any animosity among the members of his clan. He is currently Oyama Ami’s Jounin sensei, trying his hardest not to reach out and ruffle her hair every time she does something cute... Which is often and, he supposes, unintentionally.

Shisui was hailed as ‘Shisui of the Body Flicker’, indicating that he was a master at the technique. The technique does involve chakra, and the amount of chakra used depends on the distance to be travelled. Shisui has managed to personalize this technique to be somewhat untraceable to even the sharingan.
This technique allows him to enter an opponent’s mind and take complete control of it, manipulate a person’s mind and implant false experiences into them. Shisui does not require eye contact when using Kotoamatsukami. Shisui can use Kotoamatsukami a total of two times per day (once per eye) since it requires a rather large amount of chakra, despite it being part of his kekkei-genkai.
Other jutsu
Ninjutsu: Shisui is well equipped with an arsenal of fire-based jutsu commonly used by members of the Uchiha clan. Possessing the sharingan means he is able to copy most any other jutsu unless they are a kekke-genkai, though Shisui chooses to combine the wind element (his second element) with fire on occasion. He is very proficient in ninjutsu, though he tends to use taijutsu fairly often instead.
Taijutsu: Coupled with his speed, Shisui’s taijutsu is one of his strongest points, which is also probably why he tends to resort to it more often than any other class of jutsu. Shisui prefers hand-to-hand close combat, choosing to dive right into the melee and using his speed as an advantage to get close to the enemy before they even realize he’s there.
Genjutsu: As a Mangekyo sharingan user, Shisui is extremely proficient in genjutsu, also being able to use Kotoamatsukami without direct eye contact with the target.
Kenjutsu: Shisui does have considerable skill in the use of bladed weapons, but of all the bladed weapons, Shisui prefers to use a tanto.
Physical tools - Apart from the basic ninja tools, Shisui uses a tanto (a Japanese fixed-
blade knife) that is strapped onto the back of his shoulder. He prefers close combat, as is suggested by this weapon of choice.
Appearance:
At 5’ 10” and medium build with a slightly broad nose, Shisui’s most notable features are his hair and eyes – a mop of short wild black curls that he inherited from his father, and eyes with thick lashes that curve upwards at the furthest corners. His eyes were a subject of chagrin for the young Uchiha because they were the subject of teasing once upon a time. Now, however, Shisui would laugh off the ‘pretty eyes’ comments, fully aware that everyone knew what those eyes were capable of.
Shisui wears a lot of Uchiha merchandise, mostly because that is almost all that his closet contains at the moment. The high collared shirts and dark pants may sometimes be substituted for a more casual t-shirt and pants when he is off-duty. Kimonos are usually reserved for special occasions and formal events.
Personality:
Having grown up during the Third Ninja War, Shisui came to cherish the short periods of peace in between. Despite being a notable Uchiha - a member of one of the most powerful clans in Konoha - Shisui didn’t share in this thirst for blood and war. The horrors of the Third Ninja War so shaped his view on war itself that Shisui adopted a pacifist’s stance. His philosophies, however, he attributes mostly to the influence of his father, Uchiha Kagami. With Kagami’s guidance, Shisui learned to walk the fine line between clan and village. to Shisui, the two entities are not necessarily mutually exclusive. Kagami, having led by example, maintaining a balance between village and clan, even when the clan wasn’t necessarily easily trusted by most of the villagers at the time, had always been Shisui’s role model. He finds that the Will of Fire is what keeps him going, not the legacy of hatred that his forefathers mulled on; love for his clan and the village being the driving force for all of his actions, no matter how subtle and unnoticed those actions might be. He is odd in that he is able to hold both family and Konoha close to his heart in a time when Uchihas were meant to choose one or the other. In short, Shisui is both patriotic as well as loyal to his family.
Being one of the few members of the Uchiha clan that possesses a Mangekyo sharingan, as well as being the son of a notable clan member, Shisui is very involved with the clan politics. His relationship with the Uchiha is one of love and devotion, as much as he shows for the village. Proud of his clan, and yet aware of their situation owing to their history, Shisui also feels a sense of responsibility for past mistakes and continuously strives to undo them by example. Although current circumstances with an Uchiha for Hokage seem to have quieted a lot of past fears, Shisui is aware that while some things have simmered down, they haven’t completely cooled off yet -- so much so that even if he considers this a time of peace, he is usually somewhat wary. Yet, even with this sense of caution, Shisui may come off as too trusting in his attempt to move on from the past.
Shisui had always been rather easy-going despite the circumstances of his lot at a time before the current Hokage, a thin ray of sunshine amidst the blanket of gloom surrounding him. Easy-going does not make him careless, though. Instead he has the ability to think far ahead and plan accordingly, down to the very last detail, foreseeing obstacles like playing an entire game of chess in your head before you even make the first move, fully understanding that his actions will have serious consequences not only to himself, but also to the people he lives to protect.
Despite his skills and battle prowess, Shisui displays a sense of humility, which comes off as something rather contradictory to the Uchiha reputation of being a very proud clan. He has a tendency to work from within the shadows, not really keen on attracting too much attention to himself, though he unfortunately earned a moniker to his name on the battlefield: Shunshin-no-Shisui. Now, somehow, this reputation precedes him.
Shisui has the patience of a saint, and coupled with the older-brotherly air that surrounds him and the responsibility he feels in handing down the spirit of Konoha to those who come after him, Shisui makes for an excellent teacher. And, as a teacher, his policy is to never teach with a closed fist-- teach all, hide nothing, and teach from the heart. He takes great pride in his students’ triumphs and success, including that of Itachi’s. Having been an unofficial mentor to Itachi when they were younger, and having watched his best friend grow in both skill and pragmatism, Shisui found that there was a great sense of fulfillment that came with watching the younger shinobi excel. This sense of fulfilment and the idea of paying forward to the village that had given so much to him is one of the driving forces behind Shisui taking young shinobi, or shinobi-to-be, under his wing to be trained. Unofficially training Haruno Sakura soon after her Chuunin exam was also an act prompted by this same driving force. That and the fact that he saw potential in Sakura.
He is patient and perceptive, but also subtle -- even in relationships with his closest friends. Shisui will refrain from pushing an issue until the person outright tells him what’s going on. Himself one to be frustrated when pushed and goaded on a topic that he needs time sorting out, he uses the same approach on other people as well. Regardless of his patience, however, Shisui still suffers in silence watching people around him have to suffer through whatever it is that’s bothering them. Therefore subtle nudges are usually in order-- Like, for instance, on many an occasion, Shisui had considered setting up casual blind dates or introducing Itachi to a medic as a roundabout way of seeking help for his medical condition. He hasn’t acted upon this yet, though he swears he will. Soon.
On the topic of medics, however—Shisui is extremely wary of them, thanks to a mission going wrong around the time he made Chuunin wherein he was drugged. Shisui suffers from a form of congenital analgesia where he does not feel pain with the same intensity as any other individual would, putting him at quite the disadvantage when it comes to realizing that he has been injured.
Now, while Shisui cares deeply for those closest to him, he does not tend to shield them from all the world. He respects them enough to not doubt in their abilities, and considers mollycoddling a form of insult. The realization that letting go was a form of respect in itself was something he learned the hard way with Itachi, having tried to interfere with his younger cousin’s mission at one point. For Shisui, it had served as a turning point, an opportunity for growth. He has since never interfered in any of Itachi’s missions, finding it easier to discard his fears for regarding the other as his equal, capable in battle just as much as he is himself.
As mentioned earlier, one thing that stands out in Shisui is the older-brother vibe that he gives off pretty frequently. He has always been affectionate, and used to pet a much younger Itachi’s head a lot at the time. However, since that turning point in their relationship a few years ago, Shisui has taken great pains to avoid petting his students on the head. Personally, he worries that a pat on the head may seem rather patronizing, and chooses to squeeze their shoulder as a gesture of appreciation instead. Sometimes he squeezes a tad harder than intended, usually when he’s trying his darndest not to reach out and fluff the other person’s hair. Shisui is still learning with his displays of affection.
In other things, Shisui has a terrible sweet tooth. Anything from dango to wagashi and sweet tea Shisui will devour like no tomorrow. It wouldn’t be a surprise if all the tea shops in Konoha and the allied nations each had a special plaque up on the wall commemorating his presence -- so frequent are his visits to these places that shop owners know his order before he gives it out himself.
In a nutshell, Shisui is patient, prudent, perceptive, and subtle. He is affectionate, yet distant; easily committed but not attached, for at the core of his being, Shisui is selfless -- his ideal being that self-sacrifice, protecting one’s village from the shadows, is the true mark of a shinobi. It goes without saying that Shisui is loyal to the bone, loyal to his friends, loyal to the people he loves... So much so that he is willing to lay his life down for what he believes in. Probably like his namesake that can be taken to mean Still Water. After all, still waters run deep.
Strengths and Weaknesses:
+ He is patient, perceptive, and prudent, with his sights always set on the bigger picture
+ Friendly – well, generally so…
+ Fast reflexes – sometimes too fast…
+ Loyal to the bone – to both family and village, without discrimination, though his actions would be determined by whether or not they will benefit the greater good
+/- Shisui has quite the caring side, though this may be displayed without overt displays of affection. He is always committed to his causes and to the people in his care, willing to give a 110% into everything he does. This caring side may come back to bite him in the ass, though, because Shisui takes up responsibility for those closest to him and sometimes ends up burdening himself with other people’s problems.
+/- He’s selfless, and sometimes forgets what’s right in front of him in lieu of focusing on the bigger picture
+/- He is protective of those closest to him, though sometimes he could become overprotective as well. Although he is currently working on curbing the knee-jerk reaction to assume protective-big-brother-mode, Shisui still struggles with keeping his fingers out of things—like insisting upon blind dates with a medic as a roundabout way of ensuring that a friend reluctant to see a medic is somehow taken care of.
- Shisui can sometimes come off as too trusting
- He can be emotionally aloof or distant, repressing his feelings, especially when witnessing others suffer. His tendency to let people come to him when they’re ready doesn’t always serve him well, because during that ‘waiting period’ he’s fussing over them and tearing his hair out in frustration… in silence
- He doesn’t necessarily feel pain to the same extent as a normal person would. While this might prove beneficial in circumstances where he otherwise would have had to grit his teeth and bear with it, it usually puts him at quite the disadvantage because it makes it difficult for him to figure out when to stop and not overdo things. Also, it makes him extremely vulnerable to certain situations such as being drugged with very fine needles—part of the reason why he doesn’t trust medics in general.
- Kittens are a weakness…

[ There was something about the way a shinobi sat when he wasn’t pretending to be someone else that set him apart from a civilian. That, and the man clearly wasn’t interested in hiding his chakra signature. They probably would have picked out his presence from a mile away if they wanted to. That the man wasn’t making any attempt to hide his presence bothered Shisui. What kind of place was this, really? And more importantly, who was running it if nukenin roamed so freely…? ]
[ Shisui slouches beside Itachi, tipping the neck of the bottle he was holding to his mouth, eyeing the other’s ankle sideways, feigning annoyance. ]
“Hn. Serves you right; didn’t I tell you to use that stick? And what are you gonna soak it in—do they even have anything that wouldn’t give you gangrene by association?”
[ And then he was sighing dramatically, as if giving into the idea of helping Itachi to their room. ]
“Oi oi…”
[ Meanwhile, someone makes a joke about country boys not really making it for more than a week in a town like this. Shisui pretends to ignore the comment.
[ He tosses his now-empty bottle into the trash nearby, then hunches forward, elbows resting on knees as he turns his head to look at Itachi. ]
“Can you still walk up the inn, or do you want me to carry you?”
[ He’d already adopted the tone of an annoyed partner, stalling a bit because he’d picked up hints of a possible partner working in cohorts with said nukenin in their midst. That, and he really enjoyed the silly bickering and insults they traded each other on undercover missions. ]

Kushina-san seems to have left a signed package at my door with instructions to deliver it to you when you come over for the party tonight. (How does she know?) Do you happen to have any idea as to what the package might contain? Is it safe to carry into the house? Are you and Kushina-san on speaking terms? Please let me know so I can do the needful.
And please hurry—I left some eggs to boil. It’s been over half an hour.
